I've already had people in my office in an extreme amount of pain due to shovelling so I thought I would post some shovelling tips:

# 1.  Bend with your knees.  (Surely everyone knows this by now)

# 2.  Never lift the shovel and then twist at the waist.  (As a matter of fact, you should never lift anything and then twist at the waist)

# 3.  Stretch afterwards.  (So many people I've treated think that stretching should be done at the beginning of an activity.  This is false.  When you perform any activity you are contracting your muscles.  They need to be elongated afterwards.  And muscles should always be warm when you stretch)

# 4.  If you don't know how to stretch look it up online.  (Many practitioner have made Utube videos with great stretches.  Look up stretches for quadratus lumborum, erector spinae, piriformis, psoas, quadriceps and hamstrings)

# 5.  Get treatment as soon as pain begins.  (Please don't wait until you can't move.  It will end up costing you more money)

Don't forget the ice melter!  Slipping and falling can be just as painful!
